The chances of Bayelsa State Scrabble team winning medals in the forthcoming National Sports Festival in Benin City Edo State was brighten at the weekend as Joseph Aniso and Maide Areh emerged champions of week ten of the second edition of the Scrabble retreat decided at the Samson Siasia stadium Yenagoa.

Joseph Aniso maintained his dominance in categories A, amassing a total of +681 points winning nine out of twelve dropping 62 points after accumulating +743 last week to emerged champions while Maide Areh gathered +622 points winning eight in ten rounds in category B.

Precious Igali who finished 10th last week claimed the second spot in category A with +422 points Vincent Munanyo and Doubra Enai settled for third and fourth in same category.

Surprisingly Sonny Agazi who was in 14th position last week moved to second spot with a high score of +520 points, Dorcas Innocent and Jonathan Debo also seal the third and fourth place in their respective categories.

After claiming second spot last week Birigeni Iteimo drop to 5th position in category A while Ezekiel Eniekebi, Ben Quickpen and Onu Jeffrey were placed 6th and 7th after rounds.

In category B Douglas Borogha Abule Ateh and Vera Zini finished 5th,6th and 7th after twelve rounds.

Head of coach of  Bayelsa State Scrabble Association Preye Okorodas, Tareyei Alari, Ebisco Sigha and Keme Tantua all occupied 8th to 10th in both categories.

Addressing the players Director of Sports Bayelsa State Sports Council Sir Braveman Wodi lauded the scrabble team for their doggedness in their quest to make the state proud in Benin City.

On his part Chairman Bayelsa State Scrabble Association Mr Daniel Alabrah added that the performance has shown that there is no permanent position for any player.

He noted that the display has demonstrated that 14th position on the weekly retreat table can as well emerge champions.

The retreat would return this weekend at the Samson Siasia Stadium Yenagoa.
