Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) for the 2023 general elections, Mr Peter Obi; Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun as well and the Athletics Federation of Nigeria, AFN President, Mr Tonobok Okowa have all expressed their commendations with Amusan as well as Ese Brume who ala won silver in long jump at the championship.

Ese Brume jumped 7.02m to win a Silver medal for Nigeria in the women’s Long Jump at the 2022 World Athletics Championships

While congratulating Amusan, Mr Obi noted that Nigeria is yarning for leaders who would connect the talents and ambitions of the youths for her greater glory

“I sincerely congratulate Tobi Amusan on winning the 100M hurdles gold medal and setting a world record.

“Her tears at the ceremony podium while the Nigerian anthem played, connects that our dear country needs leaders to match the talents and ambitions of her youths.”

On Send Brume’s silver medal in long jump, the former Anambra State Governor said “Following Tobi Amusan’s record-breaking gold, Ese Brume grabs silver in the long jump event at the World Athletic Championship in Oregon, USA.

“We’re a great country blessed with talents ready to rule the world. Appropriate leadership is the key. Congratulations, dear Ese,” Mr Obi said on his Facebook page

The ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, this Monday also felicitated with world-class sprinter and new World Record holder, Tobi Amusan describing her feat as another superlative record coming from an Ogun State indigene.

The governor maintained that the sprinter has re-confirmed Ogun State’s standard of excellence in sports and the people of the state are very proud of her

In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Kunle Somorin, in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun described Amusan’s feat at the 2022 World Athletics Championship, held in Eugene, Oregon, USA as heart-warming and a thing of pride to not only the black race but the nation and Ogun State in particular

The governor while re-emphasising the commitment of the current administration to youth development said , during the COVID-19 pandemic government announced the adoption of the talented Ijebu-Ode-born athlete as proposed by the Minister of Youths and Sport, Sunday Dare, when he visited Ogun stressing that her performances is another testimony to the testimony the state is known for being first every human endeavour

The governor assured that he would continue to put infrastructure in place to discover new talents in sports, while incentives would also be in place to woo and encourage stars from the state

On his part, the president, Athletics Federation of Nigeria AFN, Tonobok Okowa has congratulated the newly crowned World Record holder and gold medalist in the Women 100 meters hurdles event, Oluwatobilola Amusan who broke the record twice in one night as she ran 12.12 seconds in the semi-final and 12. 06 second wind aided in the finals to claim gold.

Mr Okowa also congratulated Commonwealth Games defending champion, Ese Brume on her silver medal feat in the Female Long Jump event after leaping to 7.02 meters to place second behind Olympic Champion Malaika Mihambo of Germany who won gold with a 7.12 meters jump.

The AFN President described the successes of the duo as unprecedented in the annals of Nigeria’s participation at the World Athletics Championship as it was the first time Nigeria was winning gold at the World Athletics Championship.

He asserted that Amusan and Brume had further given the AFN the filip to sustain it’s developmental programs aimed at discovering, grooming and exposing talented young Nigerian athletes to the international community.

The Delta State sports administrator opined that Amusan and Brume had also inspired young Nigerian athletes to believe that they can become world champions, stressing that they had brought glory to Nigeria at a time the Nation was in need of something to cheer.

He enjoined the duo not to relent but sustain the tempo ahead of the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham which commences on Friday.

The AFN President also commended Team Nigeria Athletes for their performances saying despite not achieving their desires they showed that they had what it took to become champions.
