The reasons for the abrupt cancellation bif John Mikel Obi’s $4 million two-year contract by Kuwait League side, Kuwait Sporting Club have continued to emerge, reportedly.

The news broke Thursday that the former Super Eagles captain was sacked by his club four months into his two-year deal.

Report had emerged few weeks ago that the former Chelsea star had refused to keep to terms of his agreement with the agent, Mr Michael Okafor who brokered the deal in July this year.

However, it has been understood the Mikel’s was was aborted based mainly on footballing ground, as his input fell short of the high expectations of the technical crew and management of the club.

The report on the misunderstanding between Mikel and Mr Okafor created a bad image that the club found discomforting for their brand.

Nevertheless, Mikel was still considered a vital member of the club, although the massive favour he enjoyed when he newly arrived the club was no longer there.

Totori News reported that Kuwait Sc had switched mode to rate the former Stoke City player purely on his present football form, not on past football glories as 2012 UEFA champions league winner with Chelsea Fc of England or the victorious captain of the Super Eagles team that won the 2013 AFCON in South Africa.

It was then observed on the pitch that his performances were too poor to meet the aspirations of the club.

At 34 years old, Mikel had lost the steam, the energy of playing in the engine room of Kuwait SC, which is the midfield. He was no longer considered as a midfield general, but a weakened defensive midfielder, with low physical presence on the pitch.

“Mikel’s performance was not good and he could not run ,was not mobile and was playing like a tourist that was the reason his contract was cancelled.” Bader Almeraabi , Kuwaiti based football agent told Totori News

“His physical condition was very bad. He was walking on the pitch, instead of running like his other teammates, too bad.

“The club discovered later that he lacked strong physical condition as a professional footballer. His contract had to be terminated,” he said.

Mikel has not issued a statement on the situation.
