The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, SWAN, Enugu State Chapter, has felicitated with the newly appointed Enugu State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Barrister Lloyd Ekweremadu Jr and charged him to revamp the already “decaying” infrastructure and sports generally in the state

The association in a statement signed by its chairman, Comrade Gideon Iwueke on Monday described the new commissioner
as “a vibrant, young and visionary individual” who has the capacity to turn around the fortunes of sports in the state.

“Before now, Enugu state SWAN has clamored for the revival of grassroots and secondary school sports to help harness talents in sports activities and make Enugu state the attraction for sports location.

“We also pray your new office will critically look into the long abandoned Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, to help Enugu Rangers Football Club and athletes return to their home

“As we pray for a fruitful tenure, we appeal that you partner with Enugu state SWAN for the development of sports in the state, as well as the resuscitation of the s6tate Sports Council at Independence Layout and Awgu Games Village which have been moribund for decades,” The association said

SWAN thanked the Governor of the state, , Barr. (Dr) Peter Ndubuisi Mbah for promptly constituting the State Executive Council in relative time.

“We assure you of our readiness to highlight and promote Enugu State sports, as the association is bent on using every medium to promote government efforts on the sector (Sports) across all the 17 Local Government Areas,” it concluded.

Barrister Lloyd Ekweremadu Jr son of former Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu was among the newly sworn-in commissioners in Enugu State last week.

He takes over from his predecessor, Hon. Manfred Nzekwe.
