Team Nigeria Departs For 2022 Africa Taekwondo Championship

Nigeria Taekwondo team have departed the shores of the country for Kigali, Rwanda’s capital where they will take part in the 2022 Africa Taekwondo G-4 Championship

The continent made up 6 athletes left the country on Wednesday.

The athletes have been in camp at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium training in preparation for the championship immediately after the National Open Trials held in May.

Addressing the athletes before their departure, the President, Nigeria Taekwondo Federation, NTF Alhaji Abdullahi Baba charged the athletes to be good ambassadors of the country even as he thanked the federal government for support.

“I want to wish the contingent well in their trip to Rwanda and urge them to remain focused to win all the medals available and enjoy their stay.

“I won’t forget to commend and appreciate the Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Mr Sunday Dare for all his support in making sure taekwondo achieved greater heights in the world at large.”

On his part, NTF Technical Director, Mr Egwim Osita who monitored the training of the athletes since the camping exercise began, expressed optimism that they will deliver in Kigali and appreciated the NTF board for their support.

The Taekwondo Team Nigeria for Kigali 2022 is comprised of two female and four male.

The athletes are: Chinazum Nwozu (athletes Rep.) will be fighting in the female -53kg; Shola Olowookere will be competing in the male -74kg just as Benjamin Okuomose will battle in the male +87Kg

Other athletes include Bright Paul Kolade -80Kg, Elizabeth Anyanacho will be competing in the female -67kg while Haruna Usman will be competing in Poomsae competition discipline of the championship.
