Super Eagles duo of Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella have won the German Bundesliga 2023-2024 season with their club, Bayer Leverkusen.
Leverkusen were crowned champions of the 18-team league on Sunday after they demolished Werder Bremen 5-0 at home to open up an unassailable 16 points gap at the top of the league standings with five matches left to play.
Boniface played a pivotal role scoring over double digits goals including the opening goal on Sunday from the penalty box.
On his part, Tella was also magnificent through the season as Leverkusen recorded unbeaten run in the league with 29 matches including 25 victories and four draws.
It’s Victor Boniface’s first major trophy while it will be Tella’s second major trophy in two years after winning the English Championship last season with Burnley.
Bayer Leverkusen (29) have set a new Bundesliga record for longest unbeaten run from the start of a league campaign. The old record was 28, set by Pep Guardiola’s Bayern Munich in 2013-14
Amid all of the celebrations, it’s worth pointing out Bayer Leverkusen have won the league with FIVE games to spare.
They also remain unbeaten in 43 competitive games this season.
This was their 38th win this season in 43 matches.
Leverkusen are the 13th club to win the Bundesliga, and the first new champions of the league since Wolfsburg in 2008-09.
The last time Leverkusen won a trophy was on 12 June 1993, when they defeated Hertha Berlin’s second team 1-0 in the German Cup final.
