Victorious Flying Eagles Return From Niger After Conquering WAFU U-20 Championship

Nigeria’s male U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles on Sunday returned to Nigeria from Niger Republic where they went, saw and conquered the WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship.

The Ladan Bosso-led boys returned to Abuja at around 1am on Sunday via Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport.

The Nigeria Football Federation, NFF who confirmed the arrival said the delegation were received by the Secretary General, Mohammed Sausi.

“Our Flying Eagles who just won the Wafu B U20 championship arrived at 1.00am this morning. They were welcomed by the NFF General Secretary, Dr Mohammed Sanusi and other members of Management and Staff of the NFF, ” NFF said.

Flying Eagles lifted the Cup on Friday

It could be recalled that the Flying Eagles on Friday emerged champions of the 2022 West Africa Football Union, WAFU Zone B U-20 Championship held in Niger Republic ‘s capital, Niamey.

They defeated Benin Republic 3-1 to win the tournament which eluded them in 2018 during the inaugural edition.

In the final 2018, Senegal defeated the Flying Eagles 2-1 to win the maiden edition of the championship while Ghana won it in 2020.

The two finalists, Nigeria and Benin Republic have qualified for the 2023 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt early next year.
