Nigeria’s national U-17 male team, the Golden Eaglets have failed to win a match at the ongoing 2021 West Africa Football Union, WAFU Zone B U-17 tournament in Lome Togo

With the result, the team have failed to pick automatic ticket for the 2021 U-17 Nations Cup in Morroco. They will need to wait for the outcome of the last Group B match between Ivory Coast and Ghana.

The Fatai Amoo-led teenagers were unable to pick a win in their last match against Ghana in Group on Saturday.

The five-time world champions needed a win to nurse hope of reaching the semi-final stage of the tournament were their qualification for the Morocco U-17 Africa Cup of Nations showpiece would be determined.

Golden Eaglets on Wednesday lost their opening game against Ivory Coast by alone goal.

Although the team made improvement from their match on Wednesday and created four chances against Ghana in the first which went begging, they were able to score in the 77th minute.

The goal came through a penalty and Joseph Arumala converted from the spot to hand the boys a 1-0 lead.

However the celebration lasted not longer as another penalty against the Eaglets enabled the Ghana Starlets to level scores 7 minutes later.

The results leaves the team with I point same as Ghana while Ivory Coast is dictating the pace in the three-team Group B with 3 points but lesser game.

Ivory Coast will battle Ghana in the deciding match next week.

Golden Eaglets Enter Waiting Room

As it was in the
U-20 Tournament of same Competition in December last year in Benin Republic where the Flying Eagles after recording a loss and a draw against Ivory Coast and Ghana in same group, Golden Eaglets would also need to wait in Lome to know the aftermath of last Group B match between Ivory Coast and Ghana.
Nigeria will hope that Ivory Coast would beat Ghana with at least 2-0 in the last Group B match to have hope of reaching the last four.

At the U-20 level, Flying Eagles hope of progressing to the last four was dashed after Ghana lost 1-0 to Ivory Coast in the last match to bundle the Ladan Bosso team out of the race for 2021 U-20 AFCON in Mauritania.

Only the two finalists from the tournament will qualify for the U-17 Nations Cup in Morroco.
