Nigeria failed to make appreciable impact in the 2019 U-21 Handball World Championship after losing four matches and winning just one.

However, fellow Africa representative, Egypt’s handball national team qualified for the Men’s Junior U21 World Championship quarter-finals held in Spain on Wednesday after achieving a last second victory over Serbia.

The young Pharaohs were able to end the first half with 15-14 on the board, then maintain a two or three point difference above the Serbians. However, 30 seconds before the end of the match the Serbians managed to equalize 29-29 before Egypt’s heroes scored the winning goal five seconds before the final whistle.

The 30-29 victory against Serbia will be the fifth consecutive victory for Egypt, after beating Australia 44-17, Nigeria 47-30, Sweden 32-22, and South Korea 38-36.

Egypt qualified first from the World Championship’s group stage, making them the first time non European team to win all first stage matches since 2009.

The Pharaohs will face Norway in the quarter-final.

On the other hand, Nigeria the second African representative at the championship failed to reach the quarter finals.

They only manage one win over Australia and went down to Egypt, South Korea, Sweden and France in the group stage.

In the classification match played on Wednesday Nigeria were brush aside by Japan 26-16
