Egyptian coach, Carlos Queiroz have blamed his team’s 1-0 defeat in the hands of Super Eagles of Nigeria to the inability of the center referee to award them a penalty in the second half.

Speaking in a post match conference, Mr Queiroz conceded that the three-time champions were the better side in the first 45 minutes

“It was clear in the first half, we had a bad first half. Our opponent dictated the game, they deserve to take the lead in the first half. Second half, we created chances.

“We had a clean penalty and the referee didn’t award it. The situation of the penalty is not an excuse for our defeat.

“ It was not our day and also for the referees. It was a penalty and it was impossible for VAR not to check it,” he said.

He conceded that Nigeria deserved the victory adding that they respected Nigeria alot

“Nigeria deserve their win, we will recover and be ready for the next two games. We respect Nigeria a lot, we didn’t play well in the first half. In the second half, we dominated.

“We lost the ball very quick, we lost cohesion, but in the second half after the first half conversation, we played and control the game.”
