Okey Odita highlights why Nigeria Professional Football League clubs would continue to struggle in making appreciable impact in continental competitions, Besthcoicesports.com.ng can report
The Enugu Rangers and veteran Nigerian league defender stated that Nigerian league clubs will continue to struggle on the continents without a change in approach and a well-structured league after the failure of Nigerian club sides to get drawn by from the preliminary round of CAF’s inter club competition.
Odita said ad-hoc competitions like the Super 6 would have helped put the clubs in shape ahead of their continental assignments.
He added that time is no longer on their side and all four teams will be facing stern test to survive their continental onslaught.
Plateau United and Enyimba will represent the country in the 2020/2021 CAF Champions League while Rivers United and Kano Pillars will fly the country’s flag in the CAF Confederation Cup.
The NPFL has been in hiatus since March Covid-19 enforced suspension. Although the Nigeria government in October lifted ban in contact sports, the League Management Company has not disclosed exact day the 2020/2021 NPFL season will commence.
