Super Eagles players and their technical crew have not been paid their match bonuses and allowances since their semi-final match against Algeria at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Egypt in July last year, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The revelation was made by a BBC reporter, Osasu Obayiuwana in a series of tweets Wednesday.

According to him, ‘This comes from a reliable source in the Super Eagles: “The team have played NINE matches since the semi-final of the AFCON in July 2019 and the players (and officials of course) have not been paid a dime in allowances or bonuses since then. Not a red cent’

“Players are risking life and limb…No less than 4 players have been badly injured in this time while turning up for Nigeria. If there is no policy for paying bonuses, then we all know. But when promises are made upon promises and nothing is paid, it is grossly unfair…

“Is it the NFF (Nigeria Football Federation) sitting on the money? Or is it the sports ministry, headed by Sunday Dare? Is this fair?
Why is no one talking about it?” he said

Obayiuwana wonders why the Super Eagles players including their captain, Ahmed Musa have kept mute over the situation.

“The bigger question is why have the Supe Eagles players kept quiet about this situation? Why have they not spoken openly about it? Ahmed Musa is the team’s captain. And as the leader, he should say a word, knowing the team he leads is unhappy, shouldn’t he?”

The Super Eagles have come under severe criticisms following their two home-and-away draws against Sierra Leone in the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers in November.
