Report has it that the 2021 WAFU Zone B silver winning Golden Eaglets of Nigeria will relocate its camp from Abuja to Ilorin, the Kwara State Capital.

ScoreNigeria reports that a top NFF officials disclosed that arrangements have reached advanced stage for the Golden Eaglets to relocate their training camp from Abuja to finalise their preparations for the U17 AFCON in Morocco next month.

“We have almost concluded with a state government for the Eaglets to train in that state before he flyout to Morocco,” one of the top officials disclosed.

Kwara State Government is believed to be in the state being mentioned and it is proposed the team train in Ilorin.

Kwara state had earlier indicated interest to camp the team ahead of their WAFU Zone B tournament in Lome, Togo.

However, the media officer of the team, Francis Achi told our correspondent that he is not aware of such plans.

Mr Achi said that the team is intensifying preparations in their Abuja camp ahead of the 2021 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations and have lined up friendlies as well.  

The Eaglets qualified for the U17 AFCON after they lost in the final of the WAFU B U17 tournament in Togo recently.

The 14th edition of the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations will hold in Morocco from March 13 for players aged 17 and below. In September 2018, it was decided that the tournament would be hosted by Morocco.

This will be the first edition in Africa U-17 Cup of Nations to have expanded to 12 teams instead of eight. The top four teams of the tournament would have normally qualified for the 2021 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Peru as the CAF representatives. However, FIFA decided on 24 December 2020 to cancel the tournament due to COVID-19 pandemic.
