Cameroon 2021 AFCON Matchday 5 Qualifying Round Up
Group G: Kenya 1-1 Egypt (first leg 1-1)
Egypt, record titleholders with seven trophies, are through to their 25th appearance in the finals.
Earlier, Comoros Islands had won a ticket to Cameroon 2021 from this group.
Group D: Gabon 3-0 DR Congo (first leg 0-0), The Gambia 1-0 Angola (first leg The Gambia 3-1)
The Gambia become the second debutante that will feature at Cameroon 2021; first was Comoros Islands earlier in the day.
The tiny West African country qualified in this group with Gabon, each having a match to go in the qualifiers.
Gabon, who singlehandedly hosted the finals in 2017 after co-hosting with Equatorial Guinea five years earlier, missed the last edition in Egypt in 2019. They will now be appearing in tournament for the eighth time in Cameroon.
Group H: Botswana 0-1 Zimbabwe(first leg 0-0) (FT), Zambia v Algeria (first leg Algeria 5-0) (8 pm)
Zimbabwe finish behind Algeria, who have already booked their place in the finals. It’s the fifth qualification to the continental competition by the Harambe Stars, who have never gone past the group stage.
Group C: South Africa 1-1 Ghana (first leg Ghana 2-0)
Percy Tau wins a point for South Africa with an equaliser just two minutes after Ghana’s 49th-minute goal.
hana Black Stars qualified to next year’s Total Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon 2021 after holding their hosts South Africa to 1-1 draw in Johannesburg on Thursday.
Ghana raised their tally to 10 points, same as South Africa but led the Bafana Bafana on head-to-head rule. Sudan comes third with 9 points while Sao Tome and Principe are out of the race pointless.
With Sudan hosting South Africa in the last matchday, Ghana are assured of one of the top Group C spots, as they also lead Sudan on head-to-head rule.
While Sudan will host South Africa, Ghana will welcome bottom-placed São Tomé and Príncipe.
