Enugu State Government has issued a two-match ultimatum to the Abdul Maikaba led Rangers International FC technical crew with effect from their Sunday 22nd January home match against Sunshine Stars of Akure in Akwa, www.bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

In a letter dated Friday, January 20 and signed by the Honourable Commissioner for youth and sports development, Manfred Nzekwe, Maikaba and his technical crew where asked to sit-up and turn the fortunes of the club in the new league season.

The seven-time Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL champions lost their two matches in the new season, conceding three goals without scoring any.

The Flying Antelopes who are rooted at the bottom in Group B table with zero points and -3 goals, lost their opening home match 2-0 against Abia Warriors in Awka on Sunday before losing their away game against Lobi Stars 1-0 in Jos on Wednesday.

This development did not go down well with the owners of the club.

“You will recall that I had course to issue a query with regards to Rangers poor performance in the much publicized Lagos Tingo Media sponsored pre-season Tournament.

“In your answer to the guery, the government of Enugu State and in deed the supporters of Ranges world-wide were consoled that pre-season Tournament does not translate to the league games proper.

“The government of Enugu state and supporters of Rangers are concerned that the fortune of Rangers is drastically dwindling under your watch.

“It is on record that the government of Enugu State through the Management of Rangers has provided all your needed logistic supports to guarantee high level performance. Rangers owe none of her players and officials any entitlement howsoever,

“Recall that the contracts of all the technical Crew members of Rangers are purely PERFORMANCE BASED. Following from the above therefore, a Two Matches ultimatum is hereby issued to the leadership cum members of Rangers technical crew raw beginning from Rangers next home game at Awka, Anambra State on the 27th January, 2023,” the letter made available to our correspondent, read.

Rangers are playing their second consecutive league season away from home following renovation works at their home ground, Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu since October 2021.

The 2016 NPFL Champions are the only team in the 20-team NPFL never to have been relegated.
