Rivers United Begin CAF Confederation Cup Group Campaign On Sunday

Nigeria champions, Rivers United FC will this Sunday, February 12, begin their CAF Confederation Cup Group stage campaign with an away fixture in Congo
The Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL winners will on Sunday face Diables Noirs of Congo in Group B
The Pride of Rivers are traveling to Congo on the heal of their misadventure in Gombe on Sunday after they suffered a 2-1 defeat in the domestic league against Doma United.
Unfortunately, Rivers United home matches in the continental league will not be played at their home ground, Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
Confederation of Africa Football, CAF did not approve the stadium to host its matches following Nigeria Football Federation, NFF’s inability or failure to carry out due inspection on the stadium facilities in December last year.
Consequently, the club has adopted Godswill Akpabio International Stadium as their home ma ground for the second tier continental league home matches.
Rivers United are the only Nigeria club left in both the CAF Champions League and the Confederation Cup. The first two teams in each group will qualify for the quarter-final stage.
