The 34th edition of AFCON will start today with host nation Ivory Coast battling Guinea Bissau in the opening match in Group A.

“We have good players in camp, but we don’t have a team. We are still building a team because we don’t have a team that can win the AFCON,” Ideye was quoted.

The 28-cap Nigerian International said the present squad is not ready for the challenges if winning the title eleven years after they clinched it in South Africa adding that the experience of Captain Ahmed Musa and his deputy, Kenneth Omeruo will come handy for he team if they are to win the tournament

“I don’t see this present Eagles winning this AFCON; it’s not possible. We are not ready; we don’t have what it takes.

“They should all gather in the room of Ahmed Musa and discuss with him and Kenneth Omeruo. They need Musa and Omeruo to tell them how we conquered Africa in 2013.

“The discipline, the sacrifices, and how we fought and tasked ourselves when everyone had given up. “

Nigeria will take on Equitorial Guinea by 5pm on Sunday at the Stade Alassane Quattara
