Ahead of his first major competitive game, Super Eagles Coach,  Finidi George has stated that he has nothing to prove to anybody as he files out his men against South Africa in tonight’s matchday 3 encounter in the 2026 World Cup qualifying race.

The former Enyimba gaffer however expressed optimism that he wants to win the all-important match today in Akwa Ibom.

Thirty-nine days after being appointed substantive head coach of the Super Eagles, ex-international, George, will be in the foxhole today ‘his first baptism of fire’ in a match he must win to keep the nation’s 2026 World Cup appearance hope alive.

In March, Finidi, an interim coach had mixed results in his two matches, a 2-1 win over Ghana before losing 2-0 to Mali, both being friendly matches.

“I don’t have anything to prove. I am relaxed, it is football. I want to win,” Finidi said in his press conference on Thursday night.

The Supe Eagles failed to qualify for the 2024 World Cup in Qatar losing the ticket to Ghana. Nigeria is working to avoid missing the World Cup twice consecutively, and this comes with expected pressure which Mr George understands.

“I understand the tasks. I am not scared, I played at the highest and we are going for a win.” he stated.

Tonight’s match will kick-off by 8pm Nigeria time at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State capital.

Nigeria are currently 3rd in Group C with 2 points from two matches after picking two draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe
