As the 2025/2026 Nigeria Premier Football League NPFL climaxes this Sunday, a plethora of clubs are in danger of being relegated.

Already confirmed to ply their 2027 football season in the second division – Nigeria National League, NNL – are Wikki Tourists and Bayelsa United. Both teams have 40 points

However, the remaining two relegation slots are up for grabs with over 8 clubs as potential candidates.

Former champions, Plateau United with 47 points are not guaranteed of their league status next season unless they get 1 point or secure all three points against Kano Pillars.

Kun Kalifat who are on 13th position with 46 points could be relegated if they fail to beat already relegated Wikki Tourists of Bauchi in Umuahia.

Nine-time champions, Enyimba FC of Aba will aim to retain their league status next season as they confront El Kanemi Warriors.

This match is a blockbuster considering that the Warriors also need the three posts to secure their league appearance next season. A draw may not favour them unless results elsewhere decide otherwise.

Defending champions, Remo Stars, 15th on the log could find themselves playing in the NNL next season unless they defeat Brendel Insurance on the final day of the league.

Warri Wolves who are 16th in the table, also need maximum three points against Abia Warriors to retain their league status just as Niger Tornadoes need to beat Shooting Stars (who are aiming for continental ticket) to remain in the league.

The eight clubs involved in the relegation battle will no their fate at the end of the matches on Sunday.

With all matches scheduled to start at the same time of 4pm, the two teams that will join Wikki Tourists and Bayelsa United in demotion will be decided by 6pm on Sunday

Four sure, two out of the eight teams will join Wikki and Bayelsa United on the flight heading downward to the NNL next season.
