Paris Saint-Germain defended their European crown by defeating Arsenal 4-3 in a dramatic penalty shootout after a grueling 1-1 draw at the Puskás Aréna in Budapest.

The victory secures back-to-back UEFA Champions League titles for Luis Enrique’s side. They become only the second club in the modern Champions League era to successfully retain the trophy, joining Real Madrid’s historic three-peat dynasty.

Early Drama and Arsenal’s Dream Start
Fresh off winning their first domestic league title in 22 years, Arsenal entered the match chasing their maiden Champions League trophy.

Mikel Arteta’s men started with ruthless intent and stunned the holders in the 6th minute. Kai Havertz found the back of the net early, capitalizing on a sharp attacking sequence to give the Gunners a 1-1 dream opening.

Arsenal’s renowned defensive discipline kept the dangerous PSG front line quiet for the remainder of the first half, preserving their slim lead into the interval.

PSG shifted into a higher gear during the second half, dominating possession as they searched for an equalizer. The breakthrough arrived in the 64th minute when Georgian winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia drew a foul from Cristhian Mosquera inside the Arsenal box.

Following a VAR review, a penalty was officially awarded. Ousmane Dembélé stepped up under immense pressure and coolly sent Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya the wrong way to draw PSG level.

Neither side could find a winner during a tense 30 minutes of extra time. Arsenal had strong appeals for a penalty waved away, while Luis Enrique utilized his bench depth—introducing the likes of Warren Zaïre-Emery and Gonçalo Ramos—to maintain physical pressure. As the final whistle blew at 1-1, the match headed to a high-stakes penalty shootout.

The shootout proved to be a cruel ending for the English champions. Though David Raya kept Arsenal alive by saving Nuno Mendes’ spot-kick, it was not enough. Eberechi Eze fired his penalty wide, and a decisive final miss from defender Gabriel Magalhães soared over the crossbar to seal Arsenal’s fate.
