Africa Games: Athletes Motivated for more medals As FG Clears Allowances

The Team Nigeria at the on-going 12th edition of the Africa Games are very much in high spirit to win more medals as the federal government has made to its word and cleared all outstanding allowances owed the athletes.

The Federal Ministry of youth and Sports Tuesday confirmed that the Ministry is not owing athletes of the Team Nigeria at the Games.

The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Mr Olusade Adesola confirmed this in a chat with management on his arrival in Rabat on Monday.

Adesola who was happy with the successes recorded so far by the team despite challenges, commended both the individual and team athletes for showing patriotism and the hunger to conquer.

He also praised the Secretary Generals, Coaches and officials who are all making it possible for Nigeria in achieving podium performances in the recent hauls of clean medals. 

“Once again, the Ministry”, he said “will ensure her total support to see Team Nigeria through to first position in this game” 

He noted that the Ministry also revived the practice of bringing former Olympians to motivate the athletes by inviting Falilat Ogunkoya, MON and Mr Olumide Oyedeji of the Athletes Commission

Meanwhile, in a show of immediate appreciate to the ministry, Lawal Rafiatu Folashade Tuesday afternoon won 3 gold medals in weightlifting. Folashade emerged champion in the 59kg, 93kg and 117 kg. En route the gold medals, she broke and set a New Africa Record of Snatch 93kg.
