Super Eagles midfielder, Oghenekaro Etebo may miss the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON qualifiers against Benin and Lesotho next month, bestchoicesports.com.ng can reports

According to report, the Stoke City midfielder may be out of competitive action for up to four weeks after suffering a thigh injury.

Etebo was forced off after 21 minutes in Stoke City’s 1-0 away loss to Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough on Tuesday. He was replaced by Mark Duffy.

Manager Nathan Jones says Etebo’s injury looks serious and he will be out for at least two weeks.

“Carter-Vickers suffered a cut while Etebo copped a muscular thigh injury which will take a while to recover,” Nathan Jones told a post-match conference after the game.

“He will undergo scans tomorrow (Thursday) but could be out for two to four weeks.

“To lose Etebo early was a big blow for us and then lose your center-half, invariably the one that came on makes a big error for the only goal of the game.”

Massimo Luongo’s strike condemned Stoke City to an eighth defeat of the season in the Championship.

Etebo missed Nigeria’s last match – a 1-1 draw with Brazil in an international friendly – due to injury.

Nigeria will begin their quest to qualify for the 2021 AFCON with a home game against Benin Republic on November 11. The match will be followed by an away trip to Lesotho on the 19.
