FC Liberty will be playing their first match today in the league and coach of the side, Owojori Kenny, who described the two teams as a ‘family’ noted that the match will be an interesting one considering that both clubs have pedigree when it comes to the state league.
Coach Kenney who said that the club had prepared adequately for the league this season and played severally friendlies, would aim to surpass the Round of 8 finish they recorded last season.
“Rhapsody is a household name club in the FCT as well FC Liberty International is also a household name in FCT football. The match is not a do or die affair game. I regard it as a family game because we are a family.
“So far so good, we have played 7 matches, won three, drew 2 and lost two in our preparation for the FCT League. I believe that with the performance of the boys, we are good to challenge for the trophy. Last season we qualified for the Super 8 and by the special grace of God, our first target is to get to the Super 4 then we go for the league trophy.
“We have great confidence in our team, our players and our playing style. The team is youthful and energetic players and I believe with the good preparation and support of the management, we are good to go,” he said.
He commended the FCT FA for its initiative in grassroots football and encouraged them to step up action towards getting a sponsor for the league
“FCT FA have done so much to see how they can encourage the young lads most especially from the grassroots and with the new board coming in now, I believe they will do better more than they did last year. We encourage them as well to see how they can get sponsors for the league like what we have seeing in some states. If FCT can have this large number of teams participating in the league, I believe it will attract a good sponsor soon.”
