Manchester City have confirmed striker Sergio Aguero is set to leave the club in the summer when his contract expires.

The Argentine joined City in the summer of 2011 and has gone on to become a club legend, with his heart-stopping goal in the final match of the season that earned City their first title in 2012 automatically making him a club icon.

He then went on to become City’s record goalscorer, moving ahead of Eric Brook, who held the record for a massive 78 years with his goals leading the club to a further three Premier League titles, one FA Cup, and five League Cups.

In total, he has scored an incredible 257 goals in 384 appearances.

The club has now revealed they will bid farewell to legendary striker.

“Sergio’s contribution to Manchester City over the last 10 years cannot be overstated. His legend will be indelibly etched into the memories of everyone who loves the Club and maybe even in those who simply love football,” said City chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak.

“This is not yet the moment for farewell words and speeches. There is still much to achieve in the remainder of the time we have with Sergio, and we look forward to his contributions to the challenges which lay ahead.

“In the meantime, it gives me great pleasure to announce that we will be commissioning an artist to create a statue of Sergio to live at the Etihad Stadium alongside the ones under construction for Vincent and David. And we look forward to the opportunity to bid Sergio a fitting farewell at the end of the season.”

His final match for the club will come against Everton at the Etihad, and he would hope fans will be back in stadiums by then.
