Following the shambolic historical result recorded  Friday at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin by the Super Eagles after they went four goals up and allowed the Leone Stars level terms, this shows the inefficiency in the technical ability of Coach Gernot Rohr.

With what transpired, there’s no gainsaying that coach Rohr’s technical ability to manage game is questionable.

The Super Eagles went four goals up in the first thirty minutes of the game and conceded one before half-time, only for them to concede another three unreplied goals in the second half, while we have a white coach earning huge amount of hard earned tax payers income on the touchline. This is a shameful result to Nigeria as a football nation

The question now is, what is the difference between Gernot Rohr and our indigenous coaches?

During the tension and media frenzy that surrounded Rohr’s contract renewal, recall that Minister of Youth and Sports is known to have insisted Rohr must up his game if he wants to retain his job. It was at this point that people without foresight accuse the Minister of trying to hire another coach to replace Rohr.

According to punch May 19th 2020:

“But a top football stakeholder, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told our correspondent that even though Rohr was about sealing a new deal with the NFF, the ministry was looking at Redknapp taking over as coach of the Eagles in the coming days.

“He (Rohr) is expected to get another contract offer from the NFF as there are other likely conditions included in the deal to be sent to him today (Monday),” our source said.

“But if he (Rohr) doesn’t accept the new offer, it will pave the way for the ministry’s preferred candidate Redknapp; he is highly rated by the ministry officials, even though some feel he may be too old for the Eagles job and hasn’t had a coaching job for about three years.”

Below are some of Minister’s quotes extracted from goal.com dated May 15th 2020:

“All I want is a coach that is competent, I don’t care whether it is Rohr or not. The name doesn’t matter, but does he have the credentials?” Dare said in a video made available to media.

“Look at our footballers, they play in some of the best clubs in the world and are coached by some of the best coaches.

“So if you want to coach a Nigerian team, you better be sound because the invited players that are going to represent the country train under the best coaches, therefore, we don’t want a player that is sounder than the coach.”

We can now see with what is before us that the Minister’s doubts about Rohr’s competence as Super Eagles coach are coming alive.
