Rivers Angels coach, Edwin Okon has disclosed that his ladies’ 1-0 loss to South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns at the ongoing CAF Women’s Champions League in Egypt broke his heart, www.bestchoicesports.com.nh can report.

The Nigeria Women’s Premier League, NWPL champions went into the match aware that a win would see them contend for a ticket in the final four but their hope we’re shattered when the South Africans scored a controversial goal to record their second win and this handed the River State-owned club a shock defeat with two losses in two matches.

Mamelodi Sundowns won their second match in as many games to go top of Group B, after beating Rivers Angels 1-0 in Matchday 2 at El Salam Stadium, Cairo.

The South Africans raised their tally to six points on top of the group, three more than Kenya’s Vihiga Queens and Morocco’s ASFAR. Nigeria’s Rivers Angels trail the group pointless.

Mamelodi Sundowns’ Captain, Zanele Portia Nhlapho scored what proved to be the game’s lone goal at the 17th minute, as Massandawna recorded their second identical 1-0 of the tournament.

Rivers Angels tried to get back in the match but could not turn the chances into goals.

Speaking after the match, Mr Okon said although the match was a good one despite missed chances, be lamented that the defeat broke his heart.

“It was a good game, but not from our side. We created many chances but did not score. But the goal we conceded is what makes me unhappy.

“This defeat breaks my heart as a coach”.

Rivers Angels will take on Vihiga Queens of Kenya on Friday in the last Group B match.
