Edo State 90% Ready For 2020 National Sports Festival – Sports Minister

The minister of youth and sports development, Sunday Dare has stated that Edo State is 90 per cent read to host the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.


The minister stated this Tuesday during an on-the-sport assessment of facilitates ahead of the festival tagged “Edo 2020” scheduled to hold from March 22 to April, 2020.
Expressing his assessment of the facilities, the minister said he was impressed with the consistency and commitment shown by the governor and his deputy to get the work done.


“I am impressed. It shows clearly that there has been consistent work going on here, there is commitment on the part of His Excellency and the Deputy Governor, to make sure that this place is finished in record time. “I have seen progress and I can assess it to say that it is 85 per cent or rather, 90 per cent precisely ready for the National Sports Festival. It is going to be feasible and we are happy,” he told journalists in Benin, the Edo State capital.


The minister who joined the governor and his deputy to declare open the 3rd edition of Edo State Sports Festival on Monday inspected the Ogbemudia Stadium, and Youth Indoor Sports Hall.
The minister inspected the Ogbe Stadium facilities with the Gov, Dep. Gov and Ministry officials and was impressed by the state of the facilities and the completion timeline noting that “Edo government has all hands on deck to deliver.”


The Edo government based on an MoU with ministry of youth and sports development, MYSD has fully rehabilitated the sports hall. It’s back to full functionality.
No fewer than 8,500 athletes are expected to participate in the 20th edition of the National Sports Festival (NSF) and the athletes will compete for 3,000 medals from 33 sports.


Edo had hosted the 1981 edition of the festival (then as Bendel) and the 2002 edition.
