Egypt’s national team arrived in Nairobi on Tuesday, two days before they meet Kenya in their penultimate African Cup of Nations qualifier.

All foreign-based players, including Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah, flew with the team from Cairo, with the exception of Saudi Arabia-based defender Ahmed Hegazi, who will travel directly from Jeddah.

A draw would be enough for Egypt to secure passage to next year’s Nations Cup finals in Cameroon while a defeat will leave them needing to avoid loss in their final Group G game against Comoros on Monday.

The Pharaohs top the group on eight points, on level with Comoros and five clear of third-placed Kenya with two matches remaining. The top two will advance to the Cameroon finals.

Egypt were held to a shock 1-1 home draw by Kenya in their opening qualifier in November 2019 before settling for another 0-0 stalemate with Comoros.

However, the team then recovered with two home and away wins over Togo last year.

Egypt have not won the Nations Cup since clinching the last of their record seven titles in 2010. They reached the final in 2017, only to surrender their lead and lose 2-1 to champions Cameroon.
