Emir Umaru Bago National U-21 Football Competition Kicks Off On Sunday

The second edition of Alhaji Umaru Bago National U-21 Football Competition will kick off on Sunday, November 22, in Lapai community, Niger State Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The Coordinator, Federation of Youth and Soccer Clubs, FEYSOC, Mr Batako Umar Lapai who disclosed this in interview in Abuja said the organisers of the tournament, Federation of Youth Soccer Clubs, FEYSOC has put every modality in motion to ensure that the tournament is hitch-free.

He noted that apart from discovering and nurturing talents to stardom, the competition is aimed at ensuring peace in the country and keeping youths out of social vices.

Speaking in an exclusive interview in Abuja ahead of the commencement of the 2020 edition of the competition on Sunday, Mr Lapai noted that the essence of the tournament was to discover and nurture talented footballers in the state and groom then to excel in club football and be integral part of Nigeria’s national teams.

The grassroot football administrator who doubles as the chairman, Local Organising Committee said that the competition was established for the purpose of discovering hidden talents within the grassroots.

“We engage in organisation of competitions to identify some of the talents in the community and integrate them into national and international clubs.

“It’s an age grade competition designed for only the male and it is national in the sense that teams from various states are coming to compete. We have expression of interest from states such as Bauchi, Plateau, Nasarawa, Kaduna, Niger and Kogi.

Our target is the North Central states but other states who got to know about the competition indicated interest. So it has gone beyond Niger State. So far, six states have indicated interest outside the host to participate in the ten-day tournament.

The opening ceremony of the competition has been scheduled to hold on Sunday, 22nd November, 2020 at the IBB Campus Football Pitch in Minna. It will end on Sunday 29th of November,” he said.
