There are indications that the December 27 planned resumption of the 2020/2021 Nigeria Professional Football Season, NPFL may not be feasible as report has emerged that some clubs in the league are against the league staring on the said date even as they have planned for a ‘showdown meeting’ with the LMC, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The minister of sports. Sunday Dare earlier this week ordered that the new season must start on Sunday this week. LMC had since accepted this directive but there are concerns that clubs in the league are uncomfortable with the decision by the government and league handlers.

Many clubs have said they do not have the budget to start the new NPFL season on Sunday as officials that they are ready for a showdown meeting with the League management Company (LMC) in this regard.

The clubs asserted that with the league said to commence, they are yet to receive funds from the league handlers for the new season.

“It does not look likely that the league will kick off on Sunday as announced because the clubs insist they do not have the cash for the new season,” a top club official informed SCORENigeria

“So except these clubs get a lifeline possibly from the LMC, the league kick-off may again have to be shifted.”

Another official said that today’s (yesterday) meeting between the clubs and LMC will determine if the league will finally roll out this weekend.

“Today’s meeting will decide if the league will really begin on Sunday,” the official disclosed.

The organisation of the league has come under severe criticism lately on the back of contract breaches by clubs, insecurity at match venues and allegations of corruption against the LMC leadership

Although the league will presumably start within 72 hours, the LMC is yet to release official fixtures for the 2020/2021 NPFL season.
