The Federal Capital Territory Football Association, FCT FA have have disclosed plans to partner with the 5Stars Football and Colsultancy Limited for the development of grassroots football in the FCT.

The Chairman of the FA, Adam Muktar disclosed this while as guest at the 2019 5Satrs Premier League final held at the City Park, Wuse 2, Abuja.

Alhaji Muktar who commended the organisers of the league for their commitment in grassroots football development in the FCT, noted that the FA will collaborate with them with a view to ensuring that the league is spread across the 6 area Councils in the FCT.

“We have been working hard to promote sports and it is a great spectacle; everybody enjoyed themselves and it is important that as an FA we support not only football but sports in general.

“We have seen a very good final and leading to the final we have seen a very good spectacles in terms of the qualification, the quarter-final and semi-final. There were great talents and a lot of scouts came to watch the league with John Fashanu as well as Senator Ned Nwoko all gracing the final.

“I have told them that we want to take the 5Star League beyond the areas of the FCT and we want to take it to the real grassroots. We want to see more of 5-aside football, more facilities across the city and Nigeria as a whole. We want to encourage this type of football because it is compact and in a small space, it can be played in the evening. Most importantly, there are no prerequisite, you don’t have to be a part of a professional set up to play this. So it is really encouraging and developing football and it is all over the world. In Brazil they play it and it is always fun. It develops the quality of the player.

“We want to as soon as possible encourage such different kind of football including female football, female 5-aside football. You will be seen a lot of programmes that we have started working already with 5Star to develop new and even better tournaments like this,” he said.
