The maiden edition of the FWC Champions Secondary School Football Championship is set to kick-off, according to the organisers, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report

The Organizing Committee for the 2019 edition of Family Worship Center FWC Champions FCT Secondary School Football Competition on Wednesday conducted the draw for the tournament with a number of eye –catching fixtures among the 60 schools that are participating in the competition.

In the preliminary draw, the 60 schools were grouped into six pots of 10 teams and will play their matches in 6 zones selected from the 6 Area Councils in the FCT.

The preliminary play off would be played at six different centers across 6 area council which includes, Gwagwalada, Karu, Kubwa, Garki, Kuje and Abaji respectively. After which two teams from each center will qualify for the final draw.

Speaking during a press conference after the draw in Abuja, the Chairman management board FWC Champions, Pastor Yakubu Adamu Yola explained that the aim of the competition is not to make money but to give back to the society.

According to him, the competition is not for profit making, rather a Corporate Social Responsibility project aimed at giving back to the community in their own little way.

“It’s not something we’re doing not to make name for ourselves it’s equally served as our own Social Corporate responsibility to the FCT.

“Development must start from the Grassroots and if we’re able to get to the schools, we believe that most of the boys at their youthful age will be useful to themselves and society at large, so it’s a project very close our hearts.

“We are hoping that this competition is not just going to be a one-time thing. That is something that is going to be sustained over time. We are hoping that it will be an annual thing and that through this project. We’ll be able to discover talents that go far in football.” He assured.

Talking about the opportunities waiting for winner, Pastor Yola said players who distinguished themselves by their exceptional talents will be linked up to the clubs in and outside the country to further their careers.

“The Students will not only be exposed but will enjoy other benefits at the end of the day, including medals, certificates, and exposure to foreign scouts.

“The winners will have the opportunity for their players to further their careers, to expose them to people that will help link them up to other football clubs and other football opportunities outside this country. That is still in the pipeline, we are still working on it. So we will give them the opportunity,” he said

Among the secondary schools who are participating in the competition are Government Secondary School, Kubwa; Government Secondary School, Bwari; Government Secondary School, Kawu, Government Day Secondary School, Dutse-Alhaji and Government Secondary School, Dei Dei.

Others are: Army Day Secondary School, Asokoro; Army Day Secondary School, Maitama; Government Secondary School, Pyakasa; Government Day Secondary School, Wuse 2; among others.

The competition is expected to start before the end of October.
