World football governing body, FIFA, has confirmed the progression of Flying Eagles of Nigeria into  the knockout stages of the ongoing Poland U-20 World Cup,  Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report. 
FIFA in a statement via its twitter handdle immediately after Nigeria’s match against Ukraine which ended 1-1 confirmed that the Flying Eagles qualified for the next round despite coming 3rd in Group D with 4 points. 
In an all-important match against Ukraine in which the team needed a win to cement their qualifications, they were able to pull a 1-1 draw against the Europeans. 
Flying Eagles came into the game with a win and a loss in two previous matches but were found chasing the pack after 30  minutes of play. 
Ukraine took the lead in the 30th minute courtsey of D. Sitan strike while Flying Eagles glaring chance on the stroke of half time came when they were awarded a penalty which went begging after Tijani misfired. 
Nigeria made amends when another penalty was awarded on the 50th minute and this time,  Tijani made no mistakes as he sent the goalkeeper the wrong way to bring Nigeria back to the game. 
The game ended after regulation time a goal apiece but the technical bench of the Flying Eagles were seen jubilating over the team’s progression to the next level. 
Confirming the qualification, FIFA wrote: “CONFIRMED: Nigeria advance to Round of 16 as one of the four best third-placed sides.  Ukraine finish as Group D winners.”
Nigeria played three matches in the group stage, won one, drew one and lost one. Their next opponents will be confirmed at the end of the group stages.
