FOSLA Academy female football team Saturday defeated Loyola Jesuit College 3-0 in a high profile friendly match played at the Loyola Jesuit College field, Karshi, Abuja, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The match was a cynosure of all eyes as top management of both schools were on hand to watch their team slug it out in an entertaining encounter.

To an outsider, the match could be mistaken for a tournament’s final and even spectators around were surprised as the players and coaches from both teams left no stone unturned in the quest to play good football and carry the day.

Fosla ladies showed football creativity and prowess to overrun their opponents but they met a brick-wall as Loyola ladies stood their ground, repelled and stymied every ‘bullet’ thrown to them.

Loyola’s bravery, composure and determination drew cheers for them from the crowd who cheered them up. However the more cheers they received, the greater in vigour Folsa ladies grew, marauding menacingly until Loyola defence caved in for the first goal.

Janet Bawa, Fosla captain, collected a through ball from the flank and with two defenders providing an unwelcome inhibition, she dribbled them and slotted in the first goal of the match towards the closing minutes of the first half.

The resumption of second half saw the Loyola’s ladies, like wounded lionesses, roaring with greater energy, seeking revenge. They threatened persistently with a shot coming of the woodwork to deny them their equaliser in the early minutes.

Then the pendulum swap against them. Peter Peace who has been a consistent thorn in the Loyola defence finally got her deserved reward when she powered in a shot from outside the 18 yard box to increase the tally for Fosla ladies.

The match was even with chances rare from each side but Olabisi Olugboye had her name in the scorer’s sheet. If Loyola had faith of a comeback surprise, that faith was dimmed like a dying candle when Olabis made it 3-0 with just 5 minutes left.

Speaking after the match, Folsa Academy female coach Coach, Mary Godspower said that from the display of the two teams, the match cannot be described as a friendly.

Coach Mary, an ex-Super Falcons player, commended Loyola Jesuit College and the management for the effort they have put in building female football in the school.

In other two matches played between the two schools same day and venue, Folsa Academy U-15 boys defeated Loyola U-15 boys 7-1 while score line of 5-2 was recorded when the U-17 teams played later in the day, respectively.

Dignitaries that watched the match include former Kogi State governorship aspirant and Nigeria Football Federation President, Alhaji Sani Lulu Abdulahi; Loyoal Jesuit College Games Master and other top management personnel from both schools.
