The chairman who was visibly elated with the constitution of the committee stated that the management is willing to do all it could to promote grassroots sports in the FCT and beyond

Pastor Yakubu further bemoaned lack of premier league matches in the FCT due to none promotion of FCT clubs to the elite Nigeria club championship adding that the dream of the FWC FC management is to produce future players through the Senior Secondary Schools football championship.

“We have passion for the youths and we have come to understand that one of the things we need to do for youths is to help them leverage on their talents that God has given them. And one of the talents God has given the youths is sport particularly football.

“Football has become answer to a lot of youthful problems we have faced in our society today. It has been the remedy for a lot of youths that have lost direction. Therefore, we have realised the increasing need and how fitting it has become to help the youths to harness their God-given talents so that they can be useful to the society.

“We are hoping, and it is our prayer, that from this competition that talents will come out; that through this competition, great professionals in football will come out. We believe that through this competition, talents will come out to represent FCT and Nigeria at global competitions.

Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Promise Uwaeme

“We have a plan that at the end of this competition, we also will, through our commitment, work to help them further their career in whatever way we can contribute. We are at present in talks with clubs and agents outside the country and we are believing God that we are going to help them. Ours is basically to be of help and see how we can serve as bridge between these youths and their dreams and a good profession in football. If we are able to achieve that, we will have fulfilled one of the mandates that was given to us.

“We are also hoping that this is the beginning of a long term project such that every year, we should be able to host this competition.

“And it is on this basis that the committee knows that their work is enormous and requires diligence to perform. But be rest assured of our maximum support.

“It is a thing of worry that there is no premier league match in the federal capital and this is a big minus. Nevertheless, it is to solve a problem like this that FWC FC is on board and we also want to promote grassroots football,” he said.

The 7-member Local Organising Committee has Mr. Promise Uwaeme as chairman while Timothy Aiyeku will serve as secretary.

The full members are as follows Mr. Promise Uwaeme – Chairman; Mr Timothy Aiyeku – Secretary; Mr. Olayinka Oladunjuoye – Member; Mr. George Momoh – Member; Mrs. Odiri Akpan – Member and Representatives of FCT Senior Secondary School Board, FCT Senior Secondary School Board and Representative of FCT Football Association.
