Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey has declared himself fit and ready for Tuesday’s crucial World Cup Group L encounter against England after overcoming travel issues that ruled him out of the Black Stars’ opening match.

Partey missed Ghana’s 1-0 victory over Panama in Toronto after his visa application was denied, preventing him from travelling to Canada for the tournament opener.

However, the experienced midfielder has since linked up with the squad and is available for selection ahead of the showdown in Boston.

Speaking at Ghana’s training base in Providence, Rhode Island, on Monday, Partey said he had moved on from the frustration of missing the first game and was fully focused on helping his country.

“For me now it’s part of football. Things happen outside football that you cannot control but for me now I feel ok and I am ready to play.” Partey said.

The 33-year-old’s return is a significant boost for Ghana as they seek to build on their winning start against one of the tournament favourites.

Partey is also relishing the opportunity to face familiar opponents from his years in English football, particularly England stars Declan Rice and Bukayo Saka.

“I’m really happy to see them again,” he said. “I hope they are going to bring their best and try to give ourselves also the opportunity to play against the best and try to compete and enjoy the game.”

A potential midfield duel between Partey and Rice is one of the intriguing subplots heading into the contest.

The Ghanaian acknowledged the challenge posed by England’s talented squad but welcomed the test.

“I know it’s not going to be easy,” Partey said. “(They have) very good players and I am happy to play against them.”

Ghana enter the match buoyed by their opening victory, while England will be aiming to strengthen their position in Group L.

Partey’s availability adds experience and quality to the Black Stars’ midfield as they prepare for one of their toughest assignments of the group stage.

Partey’s participation in the tournament has also attracted attention because he faces seven charges of rape and two charges of sexual assault in Britain, allegations he denies.

England’s Football Association has said England players will not answer questions regarding the Ghana midfielder.
