Everton winger Alex Iwobi has sent an emotional message to Arsenal following his move to the Toffees on transfer deadline day.

The Nigerian completed his move from the Gunners to Everton on Thursday for an initial fee of £28m, which could rise to as much as £34m based on add-ons. Iwobi has only ever played for the Gunners, making his debut in the League Cup in 2015 as a 19-year-old and has gone on to make 149 first-team appearances for the north London side. After his move to the Mersey side, the 23-year-old looked back on his time at the Emirates where he won the FA Cup, reaching Europa League final and thanked the club for making him a Premier League player.

“I grew up dreaming of playing for Arsenal, following in the footsteps of some of my heroes. I’m proud to say that @ 23 I’ve achieved one of my dreams,” he posted on his Twitter account.

“From playing for Arsenal kids to 149 senior appearances. It was an honour to play for the club I supported as a boy. I’ve enjoyed every minute of it.

“So many people to thank, far too many individual names to mention but I thank you all! So many great moments, from scoring my first goal at the Emirates to scoring my last goal in Baku. You’ve all played a big part in my 17 fantastic years. Special thanks to the fans, my team mates, the support staff, my coaches Arsene Wenger and Unai Emery who put faith in me and gave me the opportunity to grow as a player and a man. BIG love to a special club. Arsenal will be forever in my heart. #Gunners #BIG172.”

Iwobi became Everton’s seven summer signing following the arrival of Moise Kean, Jean-Philippe Gbamin, Andre Gomes, Fabian Delph, Djibril Sidibe, and Jonas Lossl.
