Jubilation As 94 Runners Participate In First Opi Marathon Race In Enugu

No fewer than 104 runners took part in the first Opi Marathon race held on Saturday 17th October, 2020, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report

The marathon race covered about 14 kilometers from Opi Junction to the popular Total Roundabout in Nsukka town.

According to a member of the organising committee, “the marathon race has come to stay because we intend to turn it to a monthly exercise, if the subsequent one is sponsored”.

The maiden edition witnessed 104 registered participants while about 96 turned out.

Nsukka Local Government Chairman, Cosmas Ibeziako Ugwueze donated an Ambulance, Medical personnel that accompanied the youths for the race and an undisclosed amount of money.

In a chat with the sponsor at Opi Junction after the race, he stressed that, “the idea of the marathon is to unleash potentials, identify talents, bring unity and oneness amongst the youths thereby channelling the energy into meaningful ventures”.

The winner of the race was Olisa Ezugwu with tag number 078 who went home with N20,000 cash reward. The second position went to Dajan Bulus (027) who pocketed N15,000 cash reward while Chinonso Ezea (043) came 3rd with N10,000 cash reward.

In the female category, two sisters from same parents were the talking point of the day after they emerged first and second.

Akudo Ugwuowo finished first to go home with N10, 000 while her younger sister, Kasie Ugwuowo got N5, 000 for finishing 2cond same prize Ndidi Onyeke received as the 2nd runner up
