Super Eagles forward Ademola Lookman has resumed pre-season training with La Liga ginats Atletico Madrid as the Spanish club steps up preparations for the 2026/27 campaign.

The former Everton and Atalanta star was granted extended break after Atletico Madrid requested that he be excused from Nigeria’s international friendlies against Poland and Portugal in June. The decision allowed the winger to fully recover and prepare for the demands of the new season.

Lookman’s return comes as Atletico Madrid intensify preparations for another busy campaign after finishing fourth in La Liga last season to secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League.

Diego Simeone’s side will begin their 2026/2027 La Liga season on August 16 with a home fixture against newly promoted Malaga, as they aim to make a strong start both domestically and in Europe.

The former Africa Footballer of the Year is currently the subject of transfer speculation linking him to Turkish giants Galatasaray, just months after completing a €40 million move to Atlético Madrid.

After a highly publicized saga at Atalanta, Lookman transferred to Atlético Madrid in February 2026 for a fixed fee of €35 million plus €5 million in add-ons, signing a contract until June 2030.

However, his integration into Diego Simeone’s defensive framework has been challenging. Despite contributing 9 goals and 4 assists in 24 appearances, reports indicate Atlético is open to selling him for an asking price between €50 million and €60 million
