Former Africa Cup of Nations-winning coach Hervé Renard has reportedly entered the race to become the next head coach of Senegal, with the Frenchman said to be under consideration as the country’s football authorities continue their search for a new manager.

Sources close to the selection process indicate that the Senegalese Football Federation has drawn up a shortlist of experienced candidates, with Renard featuring prominently because of his remarkable record in African football.

The 56-year-old has built a formidable reputation on the continent, leading Zambia to one of the greatest upsets in AFCON history by lifting the title in 2012 before steering Côte d’Ivoire to continental glory three years later.

Those achievements made him the first coach to win the tournament with two different nations.

Senegal are keen to appoint a coach capable of preserving the momentum built in recent years while ensuring the Lions of Teranga remain among the leading forces in African football and competitive on the global stage.

Although the federation has yet to settle on its preferred candidate, Renard’s name continues to gather momentum as discussions over the vacant position progress.

A formal announcement is expected after the federation completes its evaluation of the shortlisted candidates
