Morocco Players Dominate 2021 CHAN Best XI
Winners Morocco and losing finalists Mali were unsurprisingly strongly represented as the Best XI for the recent African Nations Championship (CHAN) 2020 was named on Wednesday.
The Technical Study Group (TSG) of the tournament in Cameroon revealed its list of top performers with Morocco star Soufiane Rahimi named the Best Player while Guinea playmaker Morlaye Sylla was named the Best Young Player of the tournament.
Morocco trainer Hussein Ammouta was handed the Best Coach of the competition accolade as his team dominated the list of top players in the tournament in the Central African country.
Six players of the Atlas Lions, who defeated the Eagles of Mali 2-0 in the final, were named among the best 11 players of the competition designed exclusively for home-based players.
Mali has three players while third-placed Guinea has two players in the best XI.
The memorable success was sufficiently recognized as Morocco goalkeeper Anas Zniti and his defenders Abdelmounaim Boutouil and left-back Hamza El Moussaoui were in the list.
Yahya Jabrane, Soufiane Rahimi and striker Ayoub El Kaabi were also among the best players of the tournament.
Defenders Issaka Samake, Yacouba Doumbia and midfielder Sadio Kanoute make up the Mali players in the list while Guinea had Yakhouba Gnagna Barry and Morlaye Sylla.
Morocco won the CHAN for the second time early this month after overcoming Mali’s bold challenge 2-0 in a thrilling final at Ahmadou Ahidjo Stadium in Yaounde.
Two second-half headers by Abdelmouna Boutouil and captain Ayoub El Kaabi sealed the victory for the Atlas Lions in the tournament in Cameroon to hand them the title.
The Atlas Lions repeated the success on home soil three years ago by a margin that hardly looked possible as the Eagles stood toe-to-toe with the favourites for over an hour.
