The Nigeria Football Federation has for the first time confirmed the resignation of former Super Falcons coach, Thomas Dennerby as the head coach of the senior female national team, Besychoicesports.com.ng can report.

An executive board member of the NFF, Ibrahim Gusau confirmed Dennerby’s resignation Monday in Lagos.

The Swedish coach left the team under acrimonious circumstances in August after they had defeat Algeria 3-0 in aggregate to reach the next round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifier.

Best Choice Sports reported that Thomas Dennerby was frustrated out of his job by a cabal in the federation who sabotaged his efforts by not allowing him free hand in his team selections, choice of coach to work with, among others.

Mr Gusau who was fielding questions from journalist after the Super Falcons failed to progress to the next round of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics qualifier in Lagos against Cote’d’Voire, said that the resignation of the Swedish gaffer impacted on the team’s performance.

“Everyone is sad. The result was not what we expected but that is the nature of football. We need to move on

“Do not forget that before the first leg of the matches, the former coach, Thomas Dennerby sent in his resignation letter and the federation need to find a solution to the situation,” he said.

Mr Gusau who commended the interim technical crew of the team led by Christopher Danjuma for their efforts in the two-leg qualifiers said that the federation will soon engage a new coach for the team.

“The technical team, which is on interim basis, did their best and we commend them.

“However, very soon, the board will engage a new coach for the team for us to move forward,” he told Channels TV.

Super Falcons on Monday in Agege, Lagos, crashed out of the 2020 Olympics to be held in Japan after playing a 1-1 draw against visitors, Cote’d’Voire.

The Ivorians progressed to the next stage of the qualifiers on away goals rule after the first leg in Abidjan last week had ended goalless.
