The Nigeria National League, NNL 2018/19 league matches has been put on hold for two weeks, can report.

The suspension was made known via a statement released by the league management Wednesday and signed by its media officer, Amar Ignis.

According to the release made available to Best Choice Sports, the league is suspended to allow NNL clubs free period to participate in the Aiteo Cup Round of 64 matches.

The statements notes that sequel to the suspension, Matchday seven (7) fixtures earlier scheduled for this weekend will no longer hold as new dates will be announced by the NNL.

“The Nigeria National League, NNL, organisers of the Most Important and second tier domestic Football League in Nigeria have placed the 2019 League season on hold.

“This is following the need to allow its clubs featuring in the round of 64 of the 2019 Aiteo Cup (Federation Cup) to properly participate .

“Lawrence Katken, NNL Chief Operating Officer said the League will go on a two weeks’ break.

“This also means that Matchday seven (7) earlier scheduled (for) this weekend will no longer hold, as new dates will be announced by the NNL,” part of the statement read.

The Aiteo round of 64 matches are billed to begin this weekend at designated centres in the country.

NNL, has fourteen (14) of its clubs taking part in the 64 teams round.

They are ABS FC of Ilorin, Aklosendi Int’l of Lafia, Crown of Ogbomosho, EFCC FC of Abuja and Ekiti United.

Others are:Jigawa Golden Stars, Kogi United, Gateway United, Rovers of Calabar, Mighty Jets of Jos, Osun United, Shooting Stars Sports Club of Ibadan (3SC), Warri Wolves and Sokoto United.

Katken enjoined the NNL clubs to avoid acts capable of bringing the beautiful game to disrepute.

“Our teams we trust to do us proud, they should ensure they win and decently too, we do expect them to play by the rules.

“This is wishing all our teams the best of luck in the Aiteo Cup,” Lawrence concluded.
