Manchester United manager, Erik ten Hang has disclosed that Cristiano Ronaldo Refused to be subbed-in in their 2-0 Premier League win against rivals Tottenham Hotspur on Wednesday.

The 37-year-old was dropped for Manchester United’s 2-0 victory over Spurs at Old Trafford on Wednesday, with the striker throwing a visible strop at the end of the game.

Cameras picked Ronaldo up heading back to the dressing room before the full-time whistle, leading the five-time Ballon d’Or winner to be labelled as a ‘disgrace’.

He then opted to leave the ground without greeting his teammates after their best performance of the season.

Ronaldo took to social media on Thursday to explain his actions after stating it was done in the ‘heat of the moment’.

But United subsequently suspended the Portugal international from this weekend’s clash away at Chelsea.

And now Ten Hag has revealed that the Real Madrid legend decided against coming off the bench as he instead made the headlines all about him.

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Dutchman was asked whether Ronaldo refused to come on, to which he said: “Yes.”

Ronaldo did the same in pre-season during the 1-1 draw against Rayo Vallecano where he walked out of the stadium at half-time.

Ten Hag added: “What the talk – if you ask about that – is between Cristiano and me. The statement is also clear, I think. He remains an important player in the squad.

“I am the manager, I am responsible for the culture here and I have to set standards and values and I have to control them.

“In the team, we have values and standards and I have to control that. After Vallecano, I told him it was unacceptable.

“But not him everyone, this is the second time, there are consequences. We miss him tomorrow.

“It’s a miss for the squad but it’s important for the attitude and mentality of the group and now we have to focus on Chelsea as that is important.”

He continued: “I said at the start of the season, next time there have to be consequences otherwise when you are living together and playing together
