After months of intrigues, Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr has reportedly signed a new two-and-a-half year contract with the Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, Bestchoicesports.com.ng reports.

Rohr signed the new contract extension Thursday which will keep him as Eagles gaffer till after Qatar 2022 World Cup

The German tactician informed Radio France reporter that he is motivated by the young but experienced players in the Super Eagles to agree to pen the deal despite the stringent conditions that was included in the new contract.

Rohr who took the Eagles to a third place finish at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Egypt is expected to conclude the contract signing in the next even days.

The Franco-German coach who accepted a pay cut also agreed to stay in Nigeria as he takes up the challenge of qualifying the team to 2021 AFCON in Cameroon and Qatar 2022 World Cup competitions.

The former Burkina Faso, Niger Republic and Gabon national teams handler took over the reigns of the Eagles in August 2016 and returned the team to AFCON championship after the team missed back-to-back 2015 and 2017 editions of the competition.

However the team crashed out at the group stage of the 2018 World Cup after losing two matches winning one against Croatia, Argentina and Iceland, respectively.

The signing of the contract extension came three days after NFF had mandated its General Secretary to within a week sort out all issues pertaining to the contract.

Nigeria is yet to know when her next 2021 AFCON qualifiers will take place after her March and June matches against Sierra Leone and Niger Republic were indefinitely postponed due to ravaging coronavirus.

Super Eagles currently top their group L with 6 maximum points from two matches.
