The minister of youth and sports, Sunday Dare has ordered Super Eagles coach, Gernot Rohr to live in Nigeria and to henceforth start inviting home-based players into the national team, Bestchoicesports.com.ng can report

The order was contained in a statement released on Wednesday from the ministry.

The minister described the action of the coach asking his assistant to monitor local players as “unacceptable” and directed that Nigeria Football Federation should open camp where players from the local league can train for national assignment.

According the statement, the directive is to strengthen the Nigeria league as well as give opportunities to home-based players.

“Our national team must have an injection of home-based players drawn from the professional league.  The Technical Adviser must live in Nigeria and monitor the professional league in order to pick talented home lads.  Players must be picked on their current form weekly.

“This idea of asking his assistants to monitor the domestic game is unacceptable.  NFF must establish a camp where players assemble to train.”

The statement further said, “Technical Adviser must watch weekly games preferably the top of the table fixtures as it is done in other countries.  NFF must explore and commence the provision of contents when it comes to the games played in the NPFL on an incremental basis.”

NFF and Rohr came under severe criticisms after the Super Eagles failed to win any of their last four matches including insipid two draws against Sierra Leone in two-leg, home-and-away 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Rohr has been regularly accused of neglecting the home-based players at the expense of inviting fringe players from obscure league to the Super Eagles.
