NFF confirmed Amunike’s appointment as Chief Coach on February 7, 2022 via a press statement.

“The Nigeria Football Federation on Monday announced the reconstitution of the technical crew of the Senior Men National Team, Super Eagles, with Augustine Eguavoen staying as Interim Technical Adviser while former Nigeria World Cup star and former U20 Boys’ Head Coach, Emmanuel Amuneke drafted in as immediate assistant to Eguavoen,” part of the statement read.

Amunike who spoke on Brila FM sports programme on Monday disclosed that the parties are still in negotiation on the terms of the deal and “will hopefully” reach an agreement soon.

“On my contract situation with the NFF, we are discussing about it and I hope very soon we will tidy it all up,” said Amunike.

He however declined to comment on the 32-man Eagles shortlist for the Ghana matches but gave assurance that the Super Eagle’s will overcome Ghana’s hurdle.

“About the squad list, there are certain things that are not meant for public consumption, the most important thing is to focus our attention towards our preparation.
