Chairman, FCT Football Association, Adam Mouktar Mohammed has stated that the Super Eagles of Nigeria do not have any option than to win rivals, Cameroon in the Round of 16 of the ongoing Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON in Egypt, can report

Cameroon, five-time winners of the continental trophy will by 5pm Nigeria time today tackle Nigeria, three-time champions in a quest to get the quarter-final ticket in the tournament.

Cameroon had the upper hand last time the two teams met in AFCON 2000 final played in Lagos with the neighbours running away victors after penalty shootout.

However, Nigeria have had the upper hand in recent battles in the Russia 2018 World Cup qualifiers where she record a 4-0 win against the Cameroonians and held them to a 1-1 draw in return leg.

Aware of the historic rivalry between the two teams, Mouktar is confident that the Gernot Rohr-led lads will come out victorious.

He added that the loss against debutants, Madagascar was expected in view of the fact that the team had already booked their ticket to the knockout stage which gave the coach the leeway to experiment with the players but warned that the reality of the tournament is here and the team cannot afford to fail

“Super eagles do not have an option against Cameroon than to win the match. We are going into the match with what I could regard as a wounded spirit because the loss to Madagascar dented our spirit. But when you realise that we had already qualified before that match, it was obvious that the coach would experiment.

“But the reality is here and the coach knows that he needs to get the job done against one of our formidable foes in football, Cameroon. It will be a very tough match, very edgy but we hope to win the match. The team has all it takes to do Nigerians proud. The veil of disappointment over Madagascar’s defeat needs to be removed and be replaced with joy and laughter of triumph against Cameroon. I wish them good luck,” the chairman told Best Choice Sports in an exclusive interview
