The President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Mohammadu Buhari has disclosed that the country’s senior women football team, the Super Falcons will “one day win the FIFA Women’s World Cup for Nigeria,” bestchoicesports.com.ng can report.

The President stated this in his congratulatory message to the Super Falcons after they qualified for the next edition of the FIFA Women’s World Cup due to hold in New Zealand and Australia next year.

The Super Falcons who have participated in all previous 8 editions of the tournament since 1991 became Africa’s 3rd nation to qualify for their global showpiece after Zambia and Morocco.

The Randy Waldrum led ladies on Thursday defeated their rivals, Indomitable lionesses of Cameroon 1-0 in a quarter-final match played at the ongoing 2022 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON in Morocco.

The victory also ensured that the nine-time Africa champions reached the semi-final of the WAFCON tournament and on course to defend the crown they won in 2018 in Ghana.

Reacting to the victory, President Buhari in a statement through his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, congratulated the Super Falcons, for qualifying for the Women’s World Cup after their emphatic quarter-final victory at the ongoing Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON

The President commended the spirited performance of the team and prayed that the Super Falcons, who have produced some of the greatest African players in the history of the women’s game, will surpass their achievement in the last Women’s World Cup in 2019,

“Having won the tournament twice in 2016 and 2018, under this administration, the President assures the girls and their handlers that the whole nation is strongly standing with them and will continue to cheer them on until the final whistle in Morocco.

The Super Falcons will take on host Morocco in the semi-final of the Women’s AFCON on Monday. The Atlas Lionesses of Morocco have remained unbeaten in the tournament while Nigeria set aside their 2-1 opening Group C match defeat to South Africa to reach the last four.

All four semi-finalists, Zambia, Morocco, Nigeria and South Africa (who beat Tunisia 1-0 in the last quarter-final match) have qualified for the 2023 World Cup.
