Organisers of English Premier League have donated one million pounds to the Disaster Emergency Committee (DEC) in Turkey and Syria following Monday’s devatesting earthquake which rocked both countries.

Over 23, 000 persons have been confirmed dead with thousands of others injured and many still uncounted for in what has been described as the world’s worst deadliest earthquake since the one that devastated Haiti in 2010.

The Premier League said on Friday that it would “make £1m donation to Disasters Emergency Committee Appeal to deliver humanitarian aid to those in need.” and also directed that players in matches during the weekend should wear black armband in honour of the Monday earthquake victims.

“The Premier League is deeply saddened by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, which have killed thousands of people.

“The League will make a £1million donation to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) Appeal to deliver humanitarian aid directly to those in need.

“Also, as a mark of respect to those who lost their lives, or are affected by these tragic events, Premier League players and PGMOL officials will wear black armbands at matches this weekend.

“Fans can also donate to the DEC’s Turkey-Syria earthquake appeal,” the league body said on Friday.

Strugglers, West Ham and Chelsea will kick-off the weekend’s fixtures with 1:30pm clash at London Stadium today.
